A short experience or a real workshop

A series of four hand-carved mortars on a wooden shelf

Stone experience · 90 min

A demonstration of traditional stoneworking

The master shows how a bowl emerges from a raw block: from marking out and rough carving to honing. Each participant then carves their own motif into a tile of Karst limestone and takes it home.

For families, visitors to the Karst, small groups.

Make your own piece

A multi-day workshop with hand tools in which you make a mortar, a small bowl or an inscribed tile from a piece of stone. Tool hire, material and the master’s guidance are included. We set the date and scope together.

For individuals, schools, designers and companies.

How it goes

How the experience unfolds

No prior knowledge needed. You only need closed shoes and clothes that can take some stone dust.

  1. 01

    Welcome to the workshop

A short story about the Karst, the stone and the tools. A look at finished pieces and raw stone from local quarries.

  2. 02

    Demonstration

The master marks out and rough-carves a bowl. You see how the stone “sounds” — where it holds and where it breaks.

  3. 03

    Tools in your hands

Chisel, mallet and protective gear. Practice on an offcut until the stroke settles in.

  4. 04

    Your motif

You carve a letter, a sign or a simple motif into a tile of Karst limestone. The master helps with the fine strokes.

  5. 05

    Your piece goes home

We clean and wrap the tile. You take it home, along with the stone dust on your sleeves.

For companies and private groups

Team building that leaves a mark in stone

Private groups of up to 12, school groups and companies. We can pair the workshop with a tasting of Karst delicacies at the neighbours’ or a walk through Pliskovica. Every participant takes their piece home; a company can add an engraved logo.
